AMERICA PAINTS AMERICA
Follow me as I paint a mural in every state
It all started when…
I accepted an internship with the talented 3D muralist, John Pugh. I spent a few months alongside other artists, helping him complete this piece in downtown Minneapolis. I quit my job and got rid of my apartment to focus on this opportunity. After the project was finished, I was homeless. August 2017.
I drove to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I painted a mural as payment for a free place to stay while I saved money for a van to travel in.
After that, I traveled to Detroit, Michigan to work with Mark Fairall. I helped him create this three-wall mural, covering the basement of La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant.
After Michigan I traveled to Indiana and designed this piece at Evermore Tattoo Theater on Parnell Avenue
After Indiana, I found myself in St, Louis, Missouri at a small coffee shop on Cherokee Street…
I then drove to Arizona to spend time with Mural Joe, one of my favorite mural artists. I had van trouble and painted this mural as a trade for repairs.
Then I went to Houston, Texas where I met Judy and painted her head shop on Westeimer.
After Houston, I made my way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I met local artist Paul and he showed me the ropes of street art.
When I finished up in Louisiana I then road tripped up to Arkansas where a local alligator farm agreed to have me brighten up the front of their building.
After some time off, I was hired to paint a mural in Chicago for PJ. He was planning on asking his girlfriend to marry him via street art! She said YES!
This mural was such an amazing experience. I was able to spend some time with some of the best artists in Utah and received so much support and love. This took place during the huge Black Lives Matter movement and I knew I had to contribute in some way.
After Utah I decided to paint in Salem, MA for halloween! Most of the halloween activities were canceled due to covid but it was such a beautiful and historical city.
Then I drove to Pennsylvania to visit my mom’s best friend Alice from the military! Alice has known me since I was born so it was nice to catch up and spend time together.
Next I traveled to North Carolina where I spent time at a secluded yoga retreat and painted the goddess Oshun on the interior of the building.
Next up, HAWAII! I flew here from Asheville for Christmas vacation and painted a ukulele shop.
I spent most of the winter in Tampa and was able to leave my mark on this really unique restaurant in the Ybor district. Ybor is known for having wild chickens that wander the brick roads giving it an almost South American flare.
On my way back to Indiana from Florida, I stopped in South Carolina to get food. I had some extra time in my schedule so I asked local teenagers working at a Mexican restaurant where I should go to paint. They immediately told me about the UFO welcome center which sparked my interest. I spent all day there after getting permission from the owner to add art to the fence surrounding this man-made UFO. It was featured in the local paper and really excited the locals who watched me paint.
Next State takes us to an elementary school in Virginia! I worked with the students to design this piece and over 500 elementary students helped me create it in 4 days.
My Ohio Mural was another opportunity to create with students. A small group of about 30 helped bring this design to life in their school right before their high school prom! This was a fun art experience because it was such a small group so each student really got their own section to work on.
This mural in Kentucky was my donated mural for the year. The money for supplies and travel was raised by my social media following. I was able to provide a colorful edition to this group home’s gym. The kid’s had so much fun with the whole process from design to installation.
